Beautiful Thinking.
In an era when consumers demand more authentic, purpose-driven brands and products, nothing is more powerful than founders with a compelling story that shapes their goal for launching a new brand. Centred is one such brand, epitomising the major new movements in the haircare space, and all based around the lived experience of its founders, Laura Tudor and her husband, Kieran.
Based on several key factors, hair loss has become one of the biggest concerns amongst consumers. No longer a taboo subject, more and more individuals are speaking out on how hair loss affects them, and in turn, are demanding more of their haircare products to cater to this issue which can be incredibly mentally debilitating.
As discovered in our trend forecasting report, Crowsnest, hair thinning has been listed as one of the leading physical issues affecting the confidence of nearly a quarter (23%) women in the US.
The global pandemic of five years ago has impacted this, with 63% of those who experienced Covid-19 developing “hair-related signs and symptoms”, including hair thinning. Hair health is being prioritised more than ever before; 28% of customers are seeking to improve their hair health more often now than prior to the pandemic.
But perhaps the biggest factor is the acknowledgment and understanding of the impact which stress has on our physical selves, including our hair. This had a severe effect on the health of Laura’s hair, ultimately leading to significant hair loss.
When, in 2017, Laura decided to embark on a major career change, severe stress and a relentless pursuit of success led her down a path to burnout, and subsequently she lost a third of her hair in just a few months.
After reaching out to her local GP, she was informed that this is “normal”. When pressing for help after feeling dismissed, she was offered a pharmaceutical route, which would have a number of potential side effects. It was this that drove Laura and her husband, award-winning hairstylist Kieran Tudor, to explore the possibilities available when we approach haircare more holistically.
Laura explained that, “In the West, we often rely heavily on conventional medicine, largely because we’re conditioned to seek quick fixes. But when it comes to something like hair loss, there is no instant solution – you have to take a step back and consider the bigger picture.
“The hair growth cycle is slow and complex, influenced by a wide range of factors – whether it’s the accumulation of small daily stresses or a single, overwhelming stressful event or traumatic experience. Stress itself takes many forms, and understanding its impact on hair requires a full-spectrum approach. Essentially, stress hormones like cortisol interfere with the body’s natural functions, including the hair growth cycle, disrupting its rhythm and potentially leading to increased shedding or slowed growth.
“When it comes to stress in women, my personal experience was a build-up of low-level stress over a long period, followed by a sudden peak. For many, it’s the same, while for others it might be a single traumatic event – a bereavement, surgery, or a hormonal shift. Even something as natural as having a baby can be a significant stressor, not just because of the birthing process but due to the dramatic hormonal fluctuations that follow. Hormonal changes happen throughout a woman’s life, from postpartum recovery to perimenopause and menopause, all of which can impact the body and, in turn, the hair which is why we have developed products that support men and women throughout the various stages of life.
“So when we start to see changes – especially when we’re not expecting them – it can be really distressing and soul destroying. That’s why taking a proactive approach, making small but consistent lifestyle changes such as taking a hair supplement daily and adding a weekly scalp treatment, can have a powerful impact over time.
“By strengthening the foundation of our overall well-being, we can better navigate both the expected and unexpected challenges life inevitably throws at us—whether it’s menopause, career pressures, or sudden emotional stress.
“Our mission as a company is to support people going through similar experiences I went through. Drawing from what I’ve learned firsthand, I want to educate and inspire people to take control of their well being and avoid burnout. I put my body through unnecessary strain; I was constantly stressed, eating poorly, rushing through meals, not sleeping enough, and making zero time for myself. It was all work, work, work, and my self-care completely fell by the wayside.
“At Centred, we want to help people put their wellbeing first, because when you’re running on empty, everything suffers, including your hair. Stress, poor nutrition, and a non-stop lifestyle can take a toll, so we create products that don’t just support hair and scalp health but also serve as a daily reminder to slow down and prioritise yourself.
“That’s why we focus on the key triggers of hair loss – nutrient deficiencies, stress, lifestyle, and scalp health – providing solutions that help you feel good, grow stronger hair, and build confidence from the inside out.”
Since launching the business, Laura and Kieran have pioneered The Inside Out Method™, an innovative approach to hair wellness from scalp to strand, harnessing the power of nutrition and scalp health. Their formulas, ranging from nourishing treatments to cutting-edge nutrition, aim to support mindful haircare practices and provide what consumers need, and what they have discovered they are looking for support with.
“The reality is that in the UK, we have a significant issue with vitamin D deficiency—nearly 60% of the population has insufficient levels. We simply don’t get enough sunlight, and with modern indoor lifestyles, our exposure is even more limited. On top of that, women lose iron every month, making low iron levels incredibly common, alongside widespread deficiencies in vitamin B12.
“When you add stress into the mix, you have a powerful combination of triggers that can lead to hair loss. I experienced this firsthand, and I was determined to get to the root cause rather than just masking the problem.
“Our products are designed with a 360-degree approach to hair wellness, combining clinically backed herbal extracts, adaptogenic compounds, and amino acids with prebiotics and probiotics to support optimal gut health and scalp balance. The gut-skin connection plays a crucial role in overall well-being, and a thriving scalp biome is essential for strong, healthy hair. Instead of offering a quick fix, we focus on long-term solutions – nourishing the body from the inside out to address the real triggers of hair loss, treating micronutrient gaps and supporting lasting, visible results.”
When looking towards the future, Laura believes exciting strides have already been made, for Centred and beyond.
“At Centred, we believe the future of haircare lies in a complete ‘Inside Out’ approach – combining targeted supplements with advanced scalp and hair treatments. Most brands focus on one or the other, but real results come from addressing both internal and external factors. I experienced this firsthand, using a combination of nutrition, supplementation, and scalp care to restore my own hair health.
“We’ve developed a range of supplements designed to support different life stages and stressors – from daily stress management to menopause and postpartum recovery. With the rise of biohacking, we want to empower our customers with the knowledge to understand the root causes of their hair concerns and provide effective, science-backed solutions.
“Beyond products, we are committed to educating our growing salon professional and stylist community. There’s a major gap in traditional hairdressing education when it comes to hair loss, leaving many stylists unsure of how to advise their clients. Our goal is to bridge that gap by integrating trichology and hair loss expertise into haircare education through our professional ambassadors, so professionals can not only style hair but also feel confident to help protect and restore it.”
