Social Distancing: How Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson became our favourite unit of measurement

We’re doing everything we can to flatten the curve and stop the spread of Covid-19. Social distancing measures are firmly in place, with many governments instructing people to leave home only if absolutely necessary.

In the UK, that’s: shopping for basic necessities; one form of exercise a day; for medical purposes, or travel to work if you can’t work from home. And if you do go out, it’s strongly advised to keep a 2-metre distance from anyone who isn’t part of your own household.

But what is 2 metres apart exactly? We didn’t quite get it at first either. Quite a bit bigger than you’d think. Equating to just over 6.5ft. Roughly the height of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, about the length of a Harley Davidson motorbike, comparatively as tall as a Smeg fridge-freezer and approximately nose-to-tail of a smallish-sized cow.

For your viewing pleasure, Free The Birds designer, Katie Harbord, has illustrated all of the above. Remember, stay safe, stay home. And for all other essential movement, just keep on imagining Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson lying down in front of you…
